Happy New Year

My New Year's Resolutions...

1. Run three road races with my friends Kelly and Jen. Training must start immediately since our first race is St. Patty's Day.....by the way, I'm not wearing heels.

2. Take inspiration from design doyenne, Kelly Wearstler and use color fearlessly in 2011....malachite green, grotto blue, chartreuse, purple, hermes orange, laquer red.

3. Channel my inner domestic goddess.  Cook more, eat less and fluff my own nest.

4. Going Retro: The past ten years, I have been working and building.  Through the years, I've accomplished all that I set out to achieve with challenges and obstacles along the way.  They say the journey is more than the destination...and it has been quite a ride.   As a business woman, I'm a goal setter by nature, so I'm always thinking about and creating what's new and what's next.  This year my list is short.  Actually, I don't  even have a list.  This is my goal...I read earlier this year, that you don't need to recreate yourself, simply, instead you need only to return to your self.

Enchanted Makeovers

One of my favorite quotes is , "Love people, not things.".  This week I read about designer, Terry Grahl, who closed her award winning interior design business and created a non-profit organization called Enchanted Makeovers.  Using her gift and love of design, Terry's organization transforms shelters for women and children  into "places of peace and possibilities.".

"Everyone is worthy of surroundings that will nurture their soul and allow their greatness to emerge."
- Terry Grahl

Terry's story is so moving and inspirational.  Please click on the link below to visit the Enchanted Makeovers website to read about Terry and her incredible work.

Blue Grotto: Color Inspiration 2011

Here is another piece of my inspiration board for 2011... This is my interpretation of jewel tones. Instead of fine precious stones, my inspiration is natural jems in geode form, raw and uncut. While shopping for a project a couple months back, Nancy found an incredible silk tafetta in the same shade as the model's dress on the Vogue cover. Although we did not use it on the project, it is so go gorgeous that it has remained on our work table. Nancy said when the right project presents...and it always does...., we should use that blue silk paired with gold. As usual, my brain becomes a scanner....and this Vogue cover appears. I call it Grotto Blue. It has a luminous quality and such depth and richness.
